NORMAN, Okla. - Abilene Christian men's golf's Grégoire Hoyeau,
Preston DeFriend and
Jaime Lewis were each named 2024-25 Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced Tuesday afternoon.
It marks the seventh consecutive season that multiple Wildcats have garnered such distinction, with at least three golfers making the list in five of the past six years. DeFriend and Lewis earned All-America Scholar accolades for the first time in their careers, while Hoyeau received the recognition for the second consecutive season.
Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar honors are awarded to individuals classified as a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically that compete in at least 50% of their team's competitive rounds, hold a stroke average of 76.0 or lower in Division I competition and maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher.
Recipients also must be of high moral character in good standing at their respective schools. Five hundred fifty-six student-athletes from 190 Division I programs were named Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars.
"Being named an All-America Scholar is one of the more prestigious awards in college golf," head coach
Tom Shaw said. "It honors the student-athletes who demonstrate excellence on the course and in the classroom, just the type of young men that we have on our golf team at ACU. These three student-athletes are a great example of the ideals we believe in for our team."
Hoyeau, DeFriend and Lewis also made up ACU's trio on the
College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team released in June. Each was named
Academic All-Western Athletic Conference in 2025, comprising half of the six Wildcats that received the accolade.
Hoyeau is a three-time Academic All-WAC honoree pursuing a Bachelor's degree in finance with a 3.62 GPA. He was named to the All-WAC Second Team this past season and logged a pair of top-10 performances, including eighth place at the WAC Championship. The Paris product garnered Jersey Mike's A Sub Above WAC Men's Golfer of the Week distinction after placing 12th at the Bentwater Intercollegiate.
DeFriend is working toward his Bachelor's degree in finance with a 3.85 GPA. He carded top-10 showings on two occasions and was ACU's top performer at the conference tournament, where he tied for sixth. A Lubbock, Texas native, DeFriend came in ninth at the Colin Montgomerie Invitational.
Lewis earned Academic All-WAC honors in each of the past two seasons and graduated in May with his Bachelor's in accounting with a 3.94 GPA. The Johannesburg, South Africa native cracked the top 10 at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic and the Colin Montgomerie Invitational, marking four top-15 efforts in 2025.
