
Buech Leads ACU in First Round of Canadian Collegiate Invitational

MACTIER, Ont., Canada — Abilene Christian men's golf wrapped up the first round of the season-opening Canadian Collegiate Invitational in a three-way tie for ninth place at Öviinbyrd Golf Club on Sunday. Luis Buech led the Wildcats in a draw for 17th place and is one of two ACU golfers in the top 25 alongside Rex Hargrove.
ACU is knotted with Northern Illinois and co-host Kent State at 13-over 297 with two rounds remaining over the next two days. The Wildcats begin the second round with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Monday. New Mexico leads the 13-team field at 8-under 276.
ACU is tied for seventh in the field on par 3s and par 4s to go with the seventh-most birdies. It's tied for fourth with 51 pars. The Wildcats have the fourth-fewest bogeys.
Buech scored 1-over 72 to pace ACU, logging an even-par 35 on his final nine holes. He notched a birdie on No. 9, his last hole of the day, and another on No. 18. Buech's consistent play saw him tie for third with 13 pars in the opening round. He didn't shoot beyond one over par on any holes.
Hargrove followed in a tie for 25th place at 2-over 73. He led the Wildcats and tied for fifth in the field with five birdies, including three on the back nine to score 2-under 34. Hargrove drew for 10th on par 5s at 2-under.
Kade McDonough and Maximilian Björnström each drew for 48th place at 5-over 76 with a trio of birdies. McDonough joined Hargrove in carding 2-under 34 on the back nine. He tied for ninth on par 4s at even par.
Jack Holingsed rounded out the lineup in a tie for 55th place at 6-over 77. He was the lone golfer in the field with two eagles, doing so on the par-5 No. 4 and 18. Behind his eagles, Hollingsed tied for the lead on par 5s at 4-under.
