FINAL RESULTS
LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. - No. 96 Abilene Christian women's golf remained neck and neck with Tarleton State throughout the third round of the Western Athletic Conference Championship on Wednesday before wrapping up in second place at 15-over 879.
The Texans captured the WAC title with a 12-over 876 showing at Wigwam Golf Club, three strokes ahead of ACU. In the program's two years of existence, the Wildcats have finished runner-up at the conference championship on both occasions. Last season, ACU came in second place and two strokes behind Seattle U.
The Wildcats'
Ryann Honea scored 6-under 210 across three rounds, marking the top tournament shooting performance of her career and in program history. Clippd's highest-ranked WAC golfer at No. 89, she followed up her career-best 5-under 67 second round with a 4-under 68 on Wednesday. Honea tallied five birdies and just one bogey in the final round to reach second place on the individual leaderboard.
At 7-over 295, the Wildcats outshot the Texans by four strokes in the third round, but it was not enough to overcome their seven-stroke deficit entering the day.
A strong start on the front nine by ACU bridged the gap between the two teams before the Wildcats grabbed a brief lead on the back nine. Tarleton State then staged a late rally to pull away for the championship. The Texans' Louise Depadt secured the individual title at 10-under 206, including a 6-under 66, eight-birdie effort in the third round that guided Tarleton State to victory.
The Wildcats were the field's top-performing team on par 5s at 4-under and came in second on par 3s at 6-over. They tied for the second-most birdies with 34, as Honea picked up 11 of those for the third-most as an individual. She led the scoring on par 3s at 3-under and came in third on par 5s at 5-under.
Marissa Loya backed up Honea in tying for sixth place, wrapping up her freshman season with her first-ever top-10 finish. She tied her career-best single-round scoring with a 2-under 70 showing in the third that allowed her to jump 11 spots. Loya shot 3-over 219 overall with the tournament's most pars at 41.
While
Sydney Williams didn't find the same success that saw her shoot 3-under 69 on Tuesday, she still completed her best finish of the season in a tie for 13th place. She carded a 7-over 79 to close out the tournament.
Julia Vollmer capped off her freshman campaign with four birdies as part of a 6-over 78 final round. She shot even par through the front nine en route to tying for 21st place, her best finish since tying for 22nd at the West Texas Classic on March 3-4.
Jiyu Han played her first round of the WAC Championship on Wednesday and logged a 7-over 79 behind a pair of birdies.
After the Wildcats notched five top-three performances this season, Williams is the only senior on a roster that is expected to return the bulk of its production for the 2025-26 campaign. ACU will begin the program's third season in the fall.
