FINAL RESULTS
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Abilene Christian men's golf closed out the regular season with a ninth-place finish at the Buckeye Classic at Columbus Country Club on Saturday.
Jaime Lewis led the Wildcats on the individual leaderboard in a tie for 13th after a 1-under 71 showing in the final round, good for a 1-under 215 over the course of the tournament.
No. 130 ACU battled through a two-hour frost delay to get the day started, where it logged a 6-over 294 in the third round. The Wildcats dropped two spots in the standings, as Dayton rose from ninth to seventh place thanks to a 4-under 284 performance on Saturday.
Host No. 88 Ohio State won the team title at 18-under 846, one stroke ahead of No. 68 Michigan and three in front of No. 100 Miami (Ohio). No. 72 Kent State's Jordan Gilkison captured the individual crown at 11-under 205 as the Golden Flashes came in fourth.
ACU shot seventh-best in the 13-team field on par 4 holes at 26-over and tallied the eighth-most pars with 165.
Lewis led the Wildcats in scoring for the third consecutive stroke play tournament, tallying 11 birdies to pace the team and tie for eighth in the field. Four of those came in the third round as he birdied on hole No. 15 on all three occasions. Lewis shot 1-over on par 4s to tie for 11th and 5-under on par 5s to reach a tie for eighth. He recorded ACU's fewest bogeys with 10.
Trenton Johnson tied for 34th place at 5-over 221 in his first action in over two months. Like Lewis, he matched his first round score at 1-over 73 behind five birdies, the most by a Wildcat in one round in the tournament. Johnson led ACU on par 4s at 1-over, tying for 11th in the field.
Grégoire Hoyeau carded his second 1-under 73 round in a row to jump five spots into a tie for 42nd place at 6-over 222. Alongside Johnson, he notched eight birdies.
Preston DeFriend followed in a tie for 61st after an 8-over 80 final round dropped him to 12-over 228. He joined Hoyeau in scoring 1-under on par 5s.
Jack Hollingsed rounded out the Wildcats in a tie for 66th at 15-over 231. He registered a 5-over 77 final round and led ACU with 38 pars.
The Wildcats will return to play at the Western Athletic Conference Championship on April 25-27 at The Golf Club at Chaparral Pines in Pasyon, Ariz.
