FINAL RESULTS
PHOENIX - No. 96 Abilene Christian women's golf fired its best round of the weekend to record an 11th-place finish at the PING/ASU Invitational on Sunday. The Wildcats shot 25-over 889 overall at Papago Golf Club, led by No. 83
Ryann Honea's tie for 27th place at 2-over 218.
Host No. 9 Arizona State claimed the team title at 36-under 828 with each of its five golfers placing in the individual top 10. No. 12 Northwestern came in second place at 23-under 841 as the Wildcats' Dianna Lee rose three spots in the final round to earn the individual crown at 10-under 206.
Honea logged the tournament's best individual round by an ACU golfer in Sunday's third and final round with a 1-under 71. Her four birdies came within her first six holes, and she shot just two bogeys the rest of the way. Honea shot even on par 4s and 1-under on par 5s over the weekend while leading the Wildcats with 10 birdies.
Sydney Williams matched her second round showing with a 3-over 75 after punching in two birdies to finish in a tie for 45th at 7-over 223. She shot even on par 3s to pace ACU and tie for sixth in the field. Williams and
Kate Pickrell each shot a team-best 2-under on par 5s as Williams racked up 35 pars.
Marissa Loya, competing as an individual, rose nine spots on the leaderboard to meet fellow freshman
Julia Vollmer in a tie for 55th place at 10-over 226. Loya joined Honea in shooting 1-under 71 thanks to four birdies, including three on her final five holes. Loya, Vollmer and
Jiyu Han each logged seven birdies over the three rounds.
Vollmer shot 5-over 77 with just one birdie on Sunday but finished the tournament 1-under on par 5s, matching Honea. She also tied Honea for the fewest bogeys shot by a Wildcat with 10.
Han followed Loya and Vollmer in a tie for 60th place at 11-over 227. She shot two birdies in the final round, including one on her last hole. Han performed second-best for ACU on par 4s at 5-over.
Pickrell registered her best round of the weekend, displaying a nine-stroke improvement from Saturday by carding an even-par 72. She matched four birdies with four bogeys and rose six spots to a tie for 65th place at 15-over 231.
ACU tallied the seventh-most birdies in the 13-team field with 36 and shot seventh-best on par-5 holes at 7-under.
The Wildcats return to the course on April 7-8 for The "Mo" Morial Invitational, hosted by Texas A&M at Traditions Club in Bryan, Texas.
