ACU Unable to Solidify Series Against Utah Valley

OREM, UTAH – The Wildcats wrapped up its weekend series against Utah Valley with a 7-2 loss at UCCU Ballpark on Sunday afternoon. The Wildcats, now 17-12 overall and 2-4 in WAC play, were held to just three hits in the contest.

Utah Valley set the tone early, scoring three runs in the second inning and never looking back. The Wolverines tacked on additional runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings, powered by an 11-hit performance.

ACU's offense was limited but saw contributions from Grant Watkins, who recorded two of the Wildcats' three hits, and Nick Arias, who drove in both of the team's runs with a sixth-inning double. Despite multiple opportunities, the Wildcats left six runners on base.

On the mound, Cade McGarrh started for ACU, allowing five runs on eight hits across 5.2 innings while striking out four. Chandler Freeman, Noah Galvan, and David Jeon combined for the final 2.1 innings of relief. Utah Valley's Jacob Heppner (3-0) earned the win, tossing 5.2 innings with eight strikeouts, while Carston Herman recorded the save with 3.1 innings of hitless relief.

ACU now heads back to Crutcher Scott and stays home for seven games until their next away series. The Wildcats will host Sacramento State starting on Friday at 6:05 p.m.

Additionally, ACU Baseball invites fans to participate in a special event at the ballpark—Walk Off for Cancer, presented by Hendrick Health.
