SUGAR LAND - No. 87 Abilene Christian women's golf notched its third consecutive top-three performance with a second-place finish at the Riverbend Intercollegiate on Tuesday at Riverbend Country Club.
Ryann Honea earned individual runner-up honors after firing a 5-under 211 over three rounds.
The Wildcats registered a 27-over 891, building a 12-stroke cushion ahead of third-place Tarleton State and New Mexico State. Houston, led by four top-10 individuals, earned the team title as the only squad to finish under par at 6-under 858.
ACU recorded the second-lowest score of the final round alongside UT Rio Grande Valley at 10-over 298. For the tournament, the Wildcats finished among the top four performers on par 3, par 4 and par 5 holes while tallying the second-most birdies at 29.
Honea, the 59th-ranked women's college golfer according to Clippd, maintained her standing in second place while scoring a 1-over 73 in the final round. She worked her third consecutive top-two individual effort with the field's second-most birdies at nine. Honea tied for the best performance on par 5s at 3-under and was knotted for second on par 4s at 4-under.
Sydney Williams completed her best finish of the season at 14th place, as her 2-over 74 final round added to an 8-over 224 score for the tournament. She tied for 10th on par 5s, finishing at even par.
After closing out Monday in a tie for 42nd place,
Marissa Loya skyrocketed up the leaderboard to 18th at 10-over 226. The talented freshman finished in the top 20 in her third tournament in a row after leading ACU with a 2-under 70 showing in the third round. Loya's score tied for the second-lowest of the round.
Manon Guille, competing as an individual, also made a jump from 25th place on Monday to tie with Loya at 18th. The Aubigny, France product bogeyed just twice in a 2-over 74 round and finished in the top 20 on par 3s and par 4s with 23 total pars.
In contrast,
Kate Pickrell and
Julia Vollmer dropped to ties for 43rd and 45th, respectively, after they both tied for 31st place on Monday. Pickrell carded a 9-over 81, while Vollmer followed at 10-over 82.
The Wildcats will be back on the course at the Florida State Match Up on March 21-23 at Seminole Legacy Golf Club in Tallahassee, Fla.
