SAN MARCOS - Searching for its first team victory of the spring season, Abilene Christian women's tennis takes on Texas State and Incarnate Word in a pair of matches on the road this weekend. The Wildcats meet the Bobcats in San Marcos on Saturday at 1 p.m. before facing the Cardinals in San Antonio on Sunday at noon.
ACU has been battle-tested in the early going of the season, having taken on the likes of SMU, Texas Tech and Texas through five matches.
The Wildcats earned their first point of the season in last Saturday's loss to UTSA, as
Angela Del Campo grinded out a three-set match in singles for a victory.
Maria Cascos and
Olivia Sears also picked up a 6-3 win in doubles, although the Roadrunners captured the doubles point.
Texas State is 4-2 this spring with triumphs over Southeast Missouri State, South Florida, Florida A&M and Incarnate Word. It's no stranger to ACU, having competed in the Wildcat Invitational in the past two falls in Abilene.
Last September, the Bobcats' Callie Creath and Chantajah Mills took down the Wildcats' Sears and
Alice Klinteby in doubles action. Maria Lora overcame ACU's
Eva Arranz in singles, but
Masha Vrsalovic bounced back to defeat Texas State's Tadiwa Mauchi. Then, Del Campo beat Ireland Simme.
Cascos later met the Bobcats' Sofia Fortuno at the ITA Texas Regional Championships in October in Fort Worth, but was saddled with a 6-1, 7(7)-6(3) loss.
Incarnate Word hosted Texas State on Friday and was dealt a 7-0 loss. The Cardinals have been swept in both their matches this spring after a 7-0 defeat to Rice on Jan. 25. They ended last spring by reaching the Southland Conference Tournament semifinals.
