NACOGDOCHES - Rainy weather brought a premature end to Abilene Christian women's tennis' match at Stephen F. Austin on Friday afternoon as the skies opened up over the Schlief Tennis Complex during singles play. The match was ruled incomplete after the Ladyjacks captured the doubles point.
Stephen F. Austin came out of the gates strong in doubles action, as Jemma Cave and Ana Chavez Sanchez grabbed a 6-4 win over the Wildcats'
Masha Vrsalovic and
Alice Klinteby. Ksenia Mamontova and Avery Kinsey secured the point for the Ladyjacks, dealing a 7-5 defeat to
Olivia Sears and
Maria Cascos.
Angela Del Campo and
Hebe Toyos trailed Felicia Back and Sonja Rooth, 5-4, before their match went unfinished once Stephen F. Austin claimed the doubles victory.
The Wildcats and the Ladyjacks remained neck and neck through singles play, although no court finished its match before inclement weather began. On Court 3, Del Campo led Cave, 6-2, 3-6, 4-1, while three other courts were locked in a third set.
A potential makeup of the match will be announced at a later date. ACU returns to the court at 11 a.m. Sunday versus Sam Houston State at the Chuck & Wanda Beckner Tennis Center in Huntsville.
