Cbo Newton was named the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) University Credit Union Newcomer of the Week, the league announced Monday afternoon.
In two games against Top 10 opponents Newton had back-to-back career-best performances. For the week he averaged 20 points per game on 65% shooting, including 60% from behind the arc.
Newton has led ACU in scoring each of the last three games. On Tuesday, Dec. 16 at No. 1 Arizona, Newton had 17 points, tying his career-high, on 7-of-10 field goals and two steals.
Three days later at No. 10 BYU, the redshirt sophomore from Ruston, La., broke his career-high mark with 23 points on 10-of-16 from the field. Newton also had four steals -- tying the most in his career. He shot 3-for-5 on 3-pointers in each game last week.
The Wildcats (7-5 overall) conclude nonconference play on Monday at 4 p.m. at Texas Southern. ACU and TSU played down-to-wire in Dec. 2024 at Moody Coliseum, with the Wildcats winning 69-65.
