The Abilene Christian women's tennis team begins its spring season with a match against SMU on Sunday in Dallas.
It marks the third time in the past four seasons that ACU plays the Mustangs during the spring's opening weekend.
"We're looking forward to getting that first bit of competition," said head coach
Bryan Rainwater.
Sunday's match begins with doubles at 11 a.m. with singles to follow at the Styslinger / Altec Tennis Complex.Â
"Our offseason program went all the way to the week of Thanksgiving. We did a lot of conditioning and fitness. I really wanted to focus on mobility to recover from some of the nagging injuries we had in the fall. We're trying to get ready to compete for March and April."
The Wildcats' spring season features 11 home matches with the first on Sunday, Jan. 26 against New Mexico State.
In October, ACU had three players compete in the inaugural WAC Singles & Doubles Fall Invitational.
Olivia Sears lost in three sets against eventual conference champion Noelia Lorca from Tarleton State.
Masha Vrsalovic fell in three sets in her first round singles match.
Vrsalovic teamed up with
Alice Klinteby for the Wildcats' doubles pair which lost to the WAC runner-ups from Grand Canyon.
