Wildcats to open season in evening matchup with Red Raiders

ABILENE — Abilene Christian will officially kick off its 2024 season in a 6:30 p.m. matchup on the road in Lubbock, facing off against the Texas Tech Red Raiders on August 31.

The Wildcats will head to Jones AT&T Stadium in the program's first-ever game against the Red Raiders during the Division I era.

The game will also be the third Power Five matchup in head coach Keith Patterson's tenure. It will also be the first time the program has faced off against a Big 12 program since 2018, when ACU opened the 2018 on the road at Baylor.

Despite the program's first time playing in Lubbock since the D-I era began, Texas Tech is familiar territory for ACU's headman. Previous to his tenure at ACU, Patterson served as the Red Raiders' defensive coordinator from the 2019 to 2021 season. It will be the first time Patterson will return to Lubbock since he took over the Wildcat program.

Previous to the action on the field on August 31, the ACU Alumni Office will host a pregame event for Wildcat fans on the Texas Tech campus from 3-5:30 p.m. at the McKenzie-Merket Alumni Center, an eight-minute walk to Jones AT&T Stadium.

The event will occur in an indoor, air-conditioned venue, featuring all-you-can-eat gameday food, giveaways and time to catch up with ACU fans. Registration for the pregame event is only $10 for fans ages 10 and up.

Fans can now purchase tickets for the game on a first-come, first-serve basis, with general tickets also becoming available to the general public on Wednesday evening.

If fans cannot catch the game in person, fans can also stream the game live on the Big 12 Now Network on ESPN+.
