Box Score AUSTIN – An eight-run inning blew open a close game as Texas topped Abilene Christian 11-1 on Tuesday.
After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning, ACU got on the board in the second with a
Maddox Miesse sacrifice fly to score
Garrett Williams.
ACU left the bases loaded in the fourth and seventh innings. The Longhorns scored eight times in the fifth inning.
The Cats had doubles by
Miller Ladusau and Williams to go with singles by
Zandt Payne,
Gino D'Alessio,
Zion Stephens,
Aaron Staehely,
Holden Rook and
Reese Borho.
"It's a good experience for our guys," said ACU Head Coach
Rick McCarty. "We've put them in a tough spot in terms of challenging them on the road in the biggest venues in the state of Texas. We had some opportunities. I thought we did some good things."
Rolando De La Cruz pitched three scoreless innings with three strikeouts.
Blaine Palmer and
Nolan Foster each pitched a scoreless inning as well with Palmer getting a pair of strikeouts.
The Wildcats get back to Western Athletic Conference action this weekend at Stephen F. Austin, starting with a 6:30 p.m. contest on Friday.
