OREM, Utah – Abilene Christian heads into next week's WAC Tournament on a winning note, having spoiled Utah Valley's final game, 81-50, on Saturday.
ACU won every quarter and dominated the second period with 27 points.
The Wildcats took the lead for good on a three-pointer by
Payton Hull with 6:42 left in the first quarter for a 6-5 edge.
ACU led 18-12 heading into the second quarter and the Wolverines were able to stick around for the first four minutes. The Cats then went off on a 20-1 run and led 45-24 by halftime.
Gracy Wernli and
Addison Martin had six points each in that scoring spree.
After leading by as many as 24 points in the third quarter, ACU grabbed its biggest lead in the fourth when
Bella Earle scored for a 73-41 lead with 6:46 remaining.
Hull led the Wildcats with 21 points while Earle scored 16 to go with 10 rebounds and six assists.
Zoe Jackson came up with four steals, five assists, nine rebounds and six points.
Emma Troxell contributed 12 points.
ACU had 11 three-pointers in the game, led by Hull with four.
The Wildcats will learn of their first-round opponent as soon as games have finished and the league's résumé seeding system has been completed. ACU will play a Wednesday game.
