Rough Second Half Sinks Cats

LAS VEGAS – Abilene Christian saw its season end with a rough second half and a 54-41 loss to Tarleton State on Wednesday.
After falling behind 16-6 in the first quarter, the Wildcats rallied for a 21-point scoring spree and took a 27-16 lead. Zoe Jackson scored eight points and Emma Troxell added six in that run.
The Texans were able to cut the lead down to 29-23 by halftime.
The 21-point run turned out to be the majority of the points for the night. ACU shot 14.3 percent from the field in the second half and posted just a dozen points.
"I just never anticipated us not me being able to score like we did in the second half," said ACU Head Coach Julie Goodenough. "I will tell you that I am really proud of this team. There are a lot of Warriors on this team. Obviously, we're disappointed in the last 20 minutes of the game.
"Felt like we continued to get some pretty good opportunities to score in the second half but we weren't able to put the ball in the hole. And credit Tarlelton. There's probably something they were doing that prevented us from getting great shots and settling for good shots."
Bella Earle and Addison Martin led ACU with 10 points each with Earle pulling in seven rebounds. Payton Hull led the defense with three steals.
