Box Score FORT WORTH – Abilene Christian had a solid pitching night but came up empty on the scoreboard, falling to No. 5 TCU 4-0 on Tuesday.
Cade McGarrh started and took the loss, allowing one run over three innings. Relievers
Brett Garcia,
Blaine Palmer and
Chandler Freeman combined for 3.1 scoreless innings with Garcia striking out five in two innings and Palmer fanning two in one inning.
ACU's six pitchers on the night struck out 10 TCU batters.
"I think our guys competed really well against a top-five team in the country," said ACU Head Coach
Rick McCarty. "They are a top-ten offense in the country. I thought we did a really good job of attacking the strike zone early. Cade gave us a great start. They had two loud swings that kind of got them on the board there for a 3-0 game."
The Wildcats were held to four singles, including two by
Gino D'Alessio and one each by
Caden Matlon and
Ranse Radtke. ACU stranded 10 runners on the night.
"I was proud of our guys and that's a good staff," McCarty said. "They ran some good arms at us. We just didn't get the big hit when we needed it."
The 8-6 Wildcats open WAC action this weekend with a three-game series at Tarleton State, beginning Friday at 6 p.m.
