PLAYA del CARMEN, Mexico – Abilene Christian finished eighth at the Los Vaqueros Intercollegiate on Wednesday, finishing with a final round of 300 for 917.
Trenton Johnson finished 26
th at 229 after a round of 76 on Wednesday.
Zane Heusel had the second-best final round for the Cats at 75, bringing him to 232 and a tie for second with
Charlie Jackson, who shot 79 on Wednesday.
Preston DeFriend finished 47
th at 244 after a final-round 82.
Thomas Buisson had ACU's best round of the tournament, shooting a 70, but didn't figure in the individual standings after missing the first round. Golfing as an individual entry,
Jaime Lewis was 52
nd at 250 after finishing with a round of 83.
Buisson had six birdies in the final round to lead ACU and ended the tournament with eight. Heusel had three birdies on the final rounds while Johnson and DeFriend had two each and Lewis had one.
For the tournament, Heusel and Jackson each had an eagle. Johnson led the Cats with 11 birdies, followed by Buisson and Heusel with eight each, DeFriend and Jackson with five each and Lewis with three.
ACU returns to action at the University of Houston's Border Olympics in Laredo on Feb. 19-20.
