Box Score WACO – Abilene Christian scored two runs in the top of the ninth to claim a 6-4 win at Baylor Wednesday.
The Wildcats got an early lead, saw Baylor rally to tie the game late, and then responded with the ninth-inning rally to win.
Cade McGarrh had a big night both in the batter's box and on the mound.
It is the third win in a row over Baylor for ACU. The Cats swept the home-and-home series last season.
"It's a good start of the week," said ACU Head Coach
Rick McCarty. "I think anytime you get to come to a power-five environment it's a different atmosphere and the more you play in these environments, the more comfortable you are."
ACU opened the scoring in the first on an RBI single by
Gino D'Alessio.
Zandt Payne singled in
Maddox Miesse in the second inning.
Miesse drew a bases-loaded walk in the third and
Cade McGarrh added an RBI ground out for a 4-0 lead.
Baylor tied the game with two runs in the sixth and one each in the seventh and eighth.
Caden Matlon singled through the left side to drive in the go-ahead run and Rance Radtke scored on a passed ball for the final margin.
McGarrh pitched 1.1 scoreless innings and picked up the win in relief.
"Cade did a great job coming in from shortstop to slam the door there in the ninth with a two-run lead," McCarty said. "So proud of our group. A lot of different guys contributed this win.
Caden Matlon's pinch hit was the big one there on the top of the ninth."
ACU finished with eight hits, led by D'Alessio with a double and a single.
The 7-3 Cats head to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to play a three-game set over three days, beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
