ACU senior football players
Will Shaffer and
Sam Hicks have been named to the Stats Perform FCS All-America 2nd Team, the media outlet announced on Wednesday.
Shaffer, a linebacker from Tempe, AZ, led the Wildcats with 123 tackles in the 2024 season. That total tied him for 6th most in a single-season in ACU history (Ryan Boozer also had 123 tackles in 1999), and 2nd most in the program's Division I era behind Sam Denmarks' 138 tackles in 2015.
Hicks was named to the 2nd Team as an all-purpose player, a fitting title considering his ability to impact the game by carrying the ball, catching it or returning kicks.
The running back from Ft. Worth Nolan Catholic H.S. finished with 2,216 all-purpose yards (1,333 rushing, 341 receiving, and 542 kick return) and 17 total touchdowns.Â
It's the first time since joining the Division I level in 2013 that ACU has had two players make the Stats Perform FCS All-America Teams in the same season. Jeremiah Chambers made the 2nd Team as a linebacker in 2019. Kicker
Kyle Ramsey was named 1st Team in 2023.
Both Shaffer and Hicks transferred from FBS programs to ACU during the summer of 2023. Shaffer has one year of eligibility remaining, while Hicks' college eligibility has been exhausted and he is working toward a chance to play professionally.
