'Cats finish Trinity Forest Invitational with 11th place finish

DALLAS — The Wildcats concluded their appearance at the Trinity Forest Invitational on Tuesday, shooting two over par in three rounds of action.

ACU's score was the eighth-best team score throughout the entire tournament at Trinity Forest Golf Club, but two to two ties above them earned them a spot in 11th place out of the stacked 15-team field.

Ultimately, UNLV finished the tournament in first shooting 34 under par, and other teams in the field included Loyola Marymount, SMU, USC, Louisiana, Furman, San Francisco, North Texas, Rice and Louisiana Tech. The 'Cats also beat out NC State, UTRGV, UT Arlington and UTSA with their score.

The Wildcats initially struggled overall in the first round, shooting four over par in the first round on Sunday. The team made up ground on Monday in the second round, only shooting two over par. The third and final round proved to be the best for ACU all tournament, with the team shooting four under par.

Jaime Lewis led all Wildcats shooting five under par through the whole weekend, good to be in the top 25 and to have the ninth-best score in the tournament. Lewis's best round was the first one when he shot five under par. He shot one over in the second round and one under in the final round. Lewis also totaled 11 birdies over the three-day tournament.

Preston DeFriend had the second-best finish of the 'Cats, shooting two over par through the tournament. He shot on par this first day, and then shot one under par the second round, a team-best. In the third round, DeFriend shot three over par.

As for the rest of the 'Cats, Preston Cooper finished the tournament shooting four over par while Trenton Johnson shot nine over par through the three rounds. Jack Hollingsed rounded out the team shooting seven over par, scoring a team-best four under par on the final day to help ACU pass NC State in the standings, which they have been trailing the whole tournament.

Colin Leonard also had a strong showing competing individually. He finished in the top 40 shooting one over par through the tournament. His tournament best was in the second round where he shot one under par.

Up next, the Wildcats will head to Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, for the final tournament of the fall at the FAU Golf Invitational. The tournament, hosted by Florida Atlantic, will be played October 28 through 29 at the world renowned PGA National Course.
