Pickrell, Honea finish in top 30 at White Sands Invitational

PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas — ACU concluded the fall portion of their schedule on Sunday, finishing tenth in two rounds of play at the White Sands Invitational.

The tournament, held at the Ocean Club Golf Course, a Tom Weiskopf-designed 18-hole, par 72 championship course that stretches over 7,100 yards, was initially scheduled as a 54-hole tour. Rainy weather conditions on Friday changed plans though, with the tournament shifting to a 36-hole tournament.

Ultimately, ACU finished the tournament shooting 45-over par. The overall winner of the tournament, Kansas, finished the two rounds shooting 15-over par. The Jayhawks were one among five teams ACU played that were ranked in the top 50 in the country. Other ranked teams the 'Cats competed against included Purdue, Baylor, Texas A&M and Charleston. ACU also competed against Missouri, Georgia, Xavier and Coastal Carolina.

Both Kate Pickrell and Ryann Honea finished in the top 30 for the Wildcats shooting 10-over par in the two rounds of action this weekend.

Honea led the Wildcats in the first round, shooting 2-over par while having two birdies on Saturday. Meanwhile, Pickrell shot 5-over par in both rounds of the tournament, having three birdies throughout the entire tournament.

Junior Ryann Honea once again leads the field of Wildcats, shooting 2-over par in the first round of action. She also had two birdies on the day and currently sits five strokes off from the top overall spot.

Finishing right behind them was Julia Vollmer, shooting 11-over par so far during the tournament. Vollmer finished the first day 4-over par with two birdies then shot 7-over par on Sunday.

Sydney Williams followed shooting 14-over par through the whole tournament. Williams struggled in the first round of the tournament, but had a team-best score for the tournament on Sunday, shooting right at the 72 stroke par. Meanwhile, Jasmine Do rounded out the 'Cats shooting 24-over par through the whole tournament.

The White Sands Invitational rounds out a tough fall slate for the Wildcats, which took them to the Boilermaker Classic, Red Raider Invitational and Dale McNamara Invitational.

The Wildcats will return to action for the spring portion of their schedule starting next year on February 11, as they head to Litchfield Park, Arizona for the BGSU Women's Intercollegiate. The tournament will take place at the Wigwam Golf Club, the same course where the WAC Tournament will take place starting on April 14.
