ABILENE – Abilene Christian picked up an important Western Athletic Conference victory on Saturday, dealing Tarleton State a 5-2 setback.
Â
The Texans came in at 3-1 in the WAC and had won four of their last five matches but the Wildcats were more than equal to the task.
Â
"We had a great week of practice and it carried over to the match today," said ACU Head Coach Bryan Rainwater. "We keep talking about things we need to work on and this week we came into every practice with intention. Just really proud of our upperclassmen and both of them stepped up huge for us."
Â
After falling behind in doubles,
Masha Vrsalovic and
Olivia Sears tied the score with a win at first singles before
Maria Cascos and
Maryjoe Crisologo delivered the doubles point.
Â
Cascos put the Cats ahead 2-0 and
Andrea Guerrero won at line five to make it 3-1 before Crisologo got the deciding win at No. 2.
Eva Arranz also won at No. 6.
Â
The victory pulled the Cats up to 2-3 in the WAC and 8-11 overall.
Â
ACU hosts New Mexico State (Thursday) and Grand Canyon (Saturday) next week to close out the home portion of the schedule.
