ABILENE –
Logan Britt swatted three home runs and Abilene Christian overcame an early 5-1 deficit to grab a 9-7 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Friday.
The Islanders took a 1-0 lead with an unearned run in the top of the first but the Wildcats evened the score with a run scoring on a double play.
Jose Enriquez had a three-run home run for TAMU-CC in a four-run third inning to produce a 5-1 lead.
Grayson Tatrow homered to make it 5-2,
Eric Martin had an RBI fielder's choice and
Garrett Williams added an RBI single to narrow the gap to 5-4.
Britt had a solo home run in the fifth and a two-run homer in the sixth to put the Cats ahead 7-5.
The Islanders closed to within 7-6 in the top of the eighth before Britt put down the rebellion with his third home run – a two-run shot, in the home half.
Brendan Ryan added a home run in the ninth but
Blake Anderson got out of the inning with no further damage for his third save.
Tyler Morgan (2-1) went 6.2 innings with nine strikeouts to pick up the pitching win.
Britt and Tatrow had three hits each while
Maddox Miesse,
Miller Ladusau and Williams added two each in ACU's 14-hit attack.
The Cats take on Nebraska at 4:05 p.m. on Saturday.
