Box Score HUNTSVILLE – Abilene Christian picked up its first conference road win, handling Sam Houston 6-1 on Saturday.
The Wildcats snapped a four-match slump by taking care of the basics on Saturday.
"We came out and executed our game plan in doubles," said ACU Head Coach Bryan Rainwater. "We did the small things well and got the doubles point. We carried that energy into doubles. We got big leads early in singles and rode that momentum."
Maria Cascos and
Maryjoe Crisologo gave ACU an early 1-0 doubles lead with a 6-2 win at No. 2 and
Masha Vrsalovic and
Olivia Sears delivered the doubles point with a win on the first line.
In singles, Crisologo won at No. 2, 6-2, 6-2, for a 2-0 lead and Sears put the Cats ahead 3-1 with a third-line win, 6-4, 6-3.
Eva Arranz clinched the road win with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 6.
Andrea Guerrero and
Maria Cascos got straight-set wins at Nos. 5 and 4, respectively.
The Wildcats head over to Nacogdoches for a match at Stephen F. Austin on Sunday, which has been bumped up to 10 a.m. to avoid expected rain.
