ABILENE – Abilene Christian took two matches and took two others to three sets but couldn't get the team victory, falling 5-2 to Texas-Arlington in both teams' WAC opener on Friday.
Maria Cascos won at fourth-line singles, 6-1, 6-1 and
Eva Arranz won at No. 6 after falling behind early, 1-6, 7-5, 6-1.
Masha Vrsalovic and
Andrea Guerrero pushed their Nos. 1 and 5 opponents to three sets but couldn't seal the wins.
"Comes down to executing on the big points," said ACU Head Coach Bryan Rainwater. "We had opportunities. It's early but they are the top team in the conference so I feel really good about how well we played. But we didn't execute on the big points and that was the story of the day."
The Wildcats resume conference action on Sunday with an 11 a.m. match against Texas-Rio Grande Valley.
