Morgan dominates in game one as ACU splits with SEMO

ABILENE – Junior right-hander Tyler Morgan threw a complete-game shutout in game one as the ACU baseball team with Southeast Missouri in a doubleheader on Saturday. The Wildcats (5-2) scored three in the bottom of the fourth inning, then rode the arm of Morgan to a 3-0 victory. The back half of the twin bill was all Redhawks (2-4), who put together a 23-2 win in game two to earn the split. ACU's shutout in game one is the first shutout for the program since April of 2021, and the first of Morgan's career. The series continues on Sunday with another doubleheader, this time beginning at 11:05 a.m.

How It Happened
- Game one got going with Morgan allowing a leadoff single in the first, only to sit down the next 19 batters in a row. The next batter to reach would be a walk in the top of the seventh inning, only to end the game with a double play the next at-bat. Morgan faced one more than the minimum Saturday.
- The fourth inning featured the scoring in game one. Grayson Tatrow and Logan Britt led the inning off with back-to-back singles, and Tanner Tweedt followed with a hit by pitch to load the bags. Miller Ladusau then flew out to left for a sacrifice fly to plate Tatrow, and ACU led 1-0.
- After both baserunners stole a bag to move to second and third, Garrett Williams singled through the right side to score Britt. Williams would get picked off at first later in the inning, but an error by SEMO allowed another run to score, and ACU built up the 3-0 lead. That would be more than enough for Morgan.
- Game two was all Redbirds. SEMO scored 11 in the first, one in the second, nine in the third, one in the fourth, and one in the sixth. The two ACU runs came on a Ladusau rbi-single and the first career home run for Eric Martin.

Stat Pack
- Morgan struck out nine and needed just 90 pitches to toss the complete game, the first of his career.
- Britt and Ladusau led the way with two hits apiece for the doubleheader.
- Martin launched the first homer of his ACU career.

Beyond the Box Score
- Morgan's gem was the first complete game of his career, and the first CG for ACU since Genner Cervantes did so in the WAC Tournament against Seattle U last May.
- ACU did not have a shutout last season, and Saturday marked the first shutout since an 11-0 win over Northwestern State on April 2, 2021.

On Deck
- The Wildcats and Redhawks will play games three and four of the series in a doubleheader on Sunday, beginning at 11:05 a.m. Breck Eichelberger gets the ball for ACU. The games will air on WAC International.
