COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Abilene Christian won its fourth consecutive match, knocking off Montana, 5-2, on Saturday.
"It was an ugly win but a good win," said ACU Head Coach Juan Nunez. "We didn't play our best tennis today, but that is what makes us tough to beat. When the guys you can usually count on are having a bad day, someone else steps up."
The Wildcats took the doubles point, getting wins from Dario Kmet and Cesar Barranquero at No. 1 and Savan Chhabra and Ethan Scribner at No. 3. Daniel Morozov and Jose Maria Rastrojo were up 6-5 and leading 40-30 when play was stopped.
ACU endured three tough singles matches at the top of the lineup with Kmet (1), Morozov (2) and Chhabra (4) coming up with split-set wins.
"The start of singles was a little scary but Daniel and Dario really battled," Nunez said. "Savan played well against an opponent who came out fired up and won the first set. Savan played well and got the win."
Benjamin McDonald claimed a straight-set win at No. 5, 7-6, 6-4.
The Wildcats finish off their three-match weekend with a Sunday morning contest against host Air Force.
