SEATTLE – The ACU track and field programs continued to look strong through the second day of the WAC Championships, with
Annina Brandenburg and
Payton Kirk each collecting an individual conference championship. The Wildcat men are in fourth place heading into Saturday, while the women sit in second place and are just 20 points behind Grand Canyon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Ethan Christian finished the decathlon in fourth place with a total of 6,572 points following a win in the javelin, a second-place finish in the 100 and a third-place finish in the long jump.
- Will Harris (6.99m/22' 11 ¼") and Jamal January (6.98m/22' 10 ¾") made their way onto the podium in the long jump, picking up seventh and eighth place respectively.
- Brandenburg gave ACU their first-ever WAC outdoor champion, tossing the shot put 16.89m (55' 5") on her first attempt of the afternoon. Zoe Burleson turned in two PRs in the event for the day, wrapping up the event in third place after a throw of 15.29m (50' 2") in her final effort.
- The Wildcats saw two medalists in the women's long jump, as Kirk (5.93m/19' 5 ½"), the WAC Indoor Champion, was the top individual and Megan Kirby (5.70m/18' 8 ½") came in third.
- In what turned out to be a busy day for Kirk, the Coppell, Texas native finished the pole vault in third place after clearing 3.80m (12' 5 ½") in her final attempt.
- Garrison Shindler (1:51.66) and Cooper Goggans (1:51.94) both earned their way into Saturday's final in the 800, which is set to take place at 7:10 p.m. CT.
- The ACU men's hurdle crew showed up in a big way, as Jamal January (14.15), J.J. Ply (14.33), Jeremy King (14.45) and Ryan Bornemeier (14.60) will make up half of Saturday's final (6:20 p.m. CT) in the 110 hurdles.
- Kirby followed by winning her 100 hurdles heat with a time of 13.97, and she will also race on the final day of the championships (6:30 p.m. CT).
- Sprinter Jack Marshall won his 100m heat with a time of 10.70, and he will compete in Saturday's final at 6:55 p.m. CT.
- Taylor Tolen (11.77) and Mya Henson (12.11) each won their respective heats in the women's 100m, putting them in Saturday's final (7:00 p.m. CT).
- A day after taking third in the hammer throw, Tyler Richardson found himself on the podium once again, finishing the shot put in second place with a distance of 17.25m (56' 7 ¼").
- Gabe Embree shattered his previous PR by 21 seconds in the steeplechase, posting a time of 9:05.38 to claim eighth place.
- The women's steeple was the final event of the day, and Tessa Holderman came up big for the Purple and White, delivering a seventh-place time of 10:35.41 to earn two points.
