Wildcat track and field turns in solid weekend in Waco

WACO, Texas – The Abilene Christian track and field team took part in the Michael Johnson Invitational over the weekend, turning in a series of impressive performances in a deep meet.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Taylor Tolen highlighted the 100 for the ACU women, finishing 14th in the event with a time of 11.57. She also helped the 4x100 relay team (Tolen, Savannah Walker, Amy Ambelang, D'Anna Smith) and the 4x400 relay team (Tolen, Walker, Julia Perry, Ja'Dasia Sims) come in 9th and 6th respectively.
Zoe Spinn finished the high jump (1.68m/5' 6") in 15th place, one spot ahead of Sims (1.63m/5 4 ¼").
Megan Kirby's 5.73m (19' 9 ¾") was good enough 15th in the long jump, while teammate Payton Kirk (5.64m/18' 6") rounded out the top 20.
Ella Anttila had a strong performance in the triple jump, coming in fifth place with a distance of 12.75m (41' 10").
Annina Brandenburg continued her spectacular spring, turning in a third-place distance of 16.50m (54' 1 ¾") in the shot put. She added a fourth-place finish in the discus, doing so with a distance of 54.97m (180' 4").
Zoe Burleson was the eighth-place finisher in the shot put, giving ACU a quarter of the top eight after posting a lifetime-best mark of 15.03m (49' 3 ¾") in her third attempt. She also finished eighth in the discus (49.59m/162' 8") and set another PR in the hammer with a distance of 48.44m (158' 11").
Kailey Roskop was also strong in the discus for the Purple and White, doing so with a 15th place of 44.08m (144' 7").
Jack Marshall's time of 21.50 landed him in 15th place in the men's 200, and he continues to be the WAC leader in that event.
In the men's 800, Garrison Shindler led the way for a strong ACU group, finishing in fifth place with a time of 1:54.27. Cooper Goggans was the 12th-place individual with a time of 1:55.75.
Jamal January paced a strong ACU hurdles group, coming in fifth place in the 110 hurdles with a time of 13.91 before turning in a personal best 52.50 in the 400 hurdles. JJ Ply earned a 15th place finish with a time of 14.39 in the 100 hurdles, while Ryan Bornemeier (14.58) tied with teammate Jeremy King to give ACU four of the top 20.
Jimmie Horton's 54.65 was good enough for a personal best and a 19th place finish in the 400 hurdles.
Tyler Richardson tossed the shot put 16.97m (55' 8 ¼") to finish in 11th place, while Athan Huelskamp's distance of 15.73m (51' 7 ¼") landed him in 16th.
Huelskamp came in 18th in the discus (46.84m/153' 8"), while Richardson (44.23m/145' 1") finished in 22nd.

UP NEXT:

The Wildcats are home for the second time this season next Thursday, when they host the Oliver Jackson Twilight ahead of the Western Athletic Conference Championships in May.
