HUNTSVILLE, Texas – One inning made all the difference on Saturday afternoon as the Wildcats and Bearkats combined for seven runs in the fourth. The Bearkats held a two-run lead and ACU was able to tack on another in the fifth, but were unable to complete the comeback.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After a scoreless first inning, Sam Houston was the first on the board with a solo homerun in the bottom of the second.
- Calie Burris drove home a run in the top of the third, tying the game.
- The Bearkats answered in the bottom of the third, retaking the lead 2-1.
- Four consecutive singles in the top of the fourth scored three runs for the Wildcats with Miranda Lista driving in one and Riley White driving in a pair to put ACU up 4-2.
- SHSU put together four runs of their own to take the 6-4 lead after four.
- ACU answered with a run in the fifth to cut the lead to 6-5.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- White, Lista, and Mercedes Eichelberger each had multi-hit days for the Wildcats. Eichelberger extended her on base streak to 21 games.
- Burris added an RBI on the day to total six for the weekend.
- Hannah Benavides appeared in relief for the Wildcats pitching two scoreless innings.
ON DECK:
- With the Wildcats on a conference bye next weekend, the team will travel to College Station to face Texas A&M for a three-game series April 1-3.
