Softball sweeps their Friday night doubleheader

BEAUMONT, Texas – It was a doubleheader sweep on Friday evening for the Wildcats as they earned two one-run victories on the road at Lamar. A two-run homer in the top of the fifth proved to be the difference in game one, while the Wildcats took a 4-2 lead in game two before holding off a comeback attempt from the Cardinals to win, 4-3.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: 
Game 1
  • The Cardinals were the first on the board with an RBI double in the bottom of the first.
  • Logan Gaspar drove in the first run for the Wildcats, driving in Miranda Lista with and RBI double in the fourth inning.  
  • Lamar answered in the bottom of the inning to retake the lead, 2-1.
  • Matti Reiling reached base on an error in the top of the fifth and Calie Burris gave the Wildcats the lead with a two-run shot to left center.
 
Game 2
  • After a scoreless first inning, it was once again the Cardinals to score first driving in a run in the bottom of the second.
  • The Wildcats loaded the bases on a Calie Burris single with two outs and Sydney Kaiser followed with a 2-run double to put ACU up 2-1.
  • Lamar answered again with a run in the bottom of the third to tie things at 2-2.
  • ACU pushed one across in each of the fourth and fifth innings to take the 4-2 lead.
  • The Cardinals were able to score in the bottom of the fifth, but Laurén Schiek locked down the final two innings in the circle to give ACU the 4-3 win.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Calie Burris put together two multi-hit games and went 4-8 on the day.
  • Sadie Eichelberger stretched her team-high reached base streak to 12 games and is now also on a five-game hitting streak.
  • Laurén Schiek earned the save in game two for her first save of the year.
  • Logan Gaspar swiped her third base of the year.
 
ON DECK: 
  • The teams will close out the three-game series tomorrow with a single game at 12 p.m. as the Wildcats look for the series sweep.
