Wildcats to play in Tracy Beard College Classic

ABILENE - The Wildcats are back in action this weekend making the short trip to Melissa, Texas where they will compete in the Tracy Beard College Classic. The Wildcats will play five games over three days at the Melissa Sports Complex going up against Colorado State, Nevada, and North Texas. The team is coming off of a 2-4 weekend at UTEP and is looking to improve on their first weekend of action.

Last Time Out

Wildcats Storylines

  • Two returning Wildcats stepped up in big ways opening weekend with both Miranda Davila and Sydney Kaiser having big weekends. Kaiser caught five and half of the six games played after Avery Miloch injured her thumb to begin last weekend and made big plays when it mattered. Davila earned a place in the starting lineup leading up to last weekend and came out swinging, hitting .357 on the weekend including a walk-off double to secure the team's first win.
  • Sidney Holman-Mansell pitched 18 innings throughout opening weekend and came away with 19 strikeouts to lead all pitchers in the WAC. 
  • Newcomers Matti Reiling and Rose Gonzales each had stellar weekends at the plate for the Wildcats with Reiling leading the team in batting average (.444) and Gonzales hitting .353 with a double and two RBI. 
  • The Wildcats will face Nevada for the first time while the team has an 0-2 record against Colorado State and a 3-7 record against the Mean Green. 

Scouting the Wolf Pack

  • Nevada began it's season at UCLA where they dropped games to UC San Diego, UCLA, and CSUN. The team also played a game at Loyola Marymount and fell 10-2 to go 0-5 on opening weekend.
  • Paris Schwalbe led the Wolf Pack at the plate, hitting .556 last weekend with two doubles. 
  • Ellie Garcia was the top arm for Nevada going 12 innings in the circle and finishing the weekend with a 5.25 ERA. 

Scouting the Rams

  • Colorado State opened their season 1-4 on the road at the Easton Classic in Fullerton, Calif. The team faced San Diego, Ole Miss, Dixie State, Cal State Fullerton, and Cal with their lone win coming in five innings over Dixie State. Three of their four losses were one-run contests.
  • Hailey Smith and Morgan Crosby each hit over .300 last weekend to lead the Rams, but it was Peyton Allen who hit two homers and led the team with six RBI.
  • Sydney Hornbuckle went 12.2 innings for the Rams last weekend with a stellar 0.55 ERA. Jetta Nannen pitched five innings of relief giving up just three hits and no runs.

Scouting the Mean Green

  • North Texas opened the season 3-2 playing in Louisiana last weekend. The team earned wins over Texas Southern and Tulsa while dropping games at No. 19 Louisiana and McNeese. 
  • Kalei Christensen leads the team with a .313 batting average and hit three homeruns opening weekend. She led the team with nine RBI. 
  • The pitching staff as a whole came away with a 2.32 ERA last weekend and Skylar Savage went eight innings without giving up a run. Ashely Peters worked the most innings at 13.1 but gave up just three earned runs.
