ACU falls in El Paso, back in action on Saturday

EL PASO, Texas – The ACU softball team was tripped up in Friday's season-opening doubleheader, falling to Idaho State in the opener before seeing a comeback attempt fall short against UTEP in the nightcap. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: 
Game 1 | ACU vs. Idaho State 

• The Bengals plated two runs in the third inning before opening up a big lead an inning later. 
• Sidney Holman-Mansell picked up four strikeouts in her season debut in the circle, while Hannah Benavides was credited with the final frame. 
• Matti Reiling and Miranda Davila each provided an extra-base hit in the season opener, and Rose Gonzales managed to swipe the first bag of the campaign in 2022. 

 
Game 2 | ACU at UTEP

• Callie Burris singled home a run in the top of the third inning, giving ACU its first lead of the spring. 
• UTEP got all four runs in the fifth inning, doing so on four hits. 
• Logan Gaspar cut the deficit to two with a single to left in the top of the sixth, scoring Rose Gonzales from third. 
• Avery Miloch belted a solo homer with one out and the bases empty in the final inning, but the Wildcats were unable to complete the comeback attempt, leaving the tying run at first base. 

 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

• The Purple and White have opened the season on the road in the state of Texas for the third year in a row. 
• Friday marked the first of three doubleheaders in as many days for ACU. 

 
ON DECK: 

• ACU is back in action on Saturday, when they take on Idaho State again at 11 a.m. CT and follow it with a 2 p.m. CT first pitch against Creighton.
