
Rono, Chambers lead pack as ACU distance runners shine in Kansas

PITTSBURG, Kan. – The Abilene Christian distance squad took part in the Pittsburg State Invitational on Saturday, representing the Purple and White with a series of strong performances.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Levi Chambers (14:43.29) and Colton Gates (15:24.05) each set new personal bests in the 5K, with the former winning the event and tinkering just outside the WAC top ten.
- Freshman Garrison Shindler came up big for the Purple and White, setting a PR in the 800m with a time of 1:55.58 to finish in fourth place.
- Cooper Goggans followed with his own lifetime best time of 4:19.92 in the mile run to finish inside the top 15.
- Irene Rono led a tremendous 3K group for the Wildcats, winning the event and improving her mark with a WAC-leading time of 9:44.88. Teammates Briahna Gerlach (9:54.67), Tessa Holderman (10:14.79), Prudence Kiyeng (10:22.83), Grace White (10:29.73), and Sarah Wagler (10:32.01) all finished inside the top 14, helping ACU dominate the event.
UP NEXT:
- The Purple and White return to action on February 4, when they open the Charlie Thomas Invitational and Multis on the campus of Texas A&M University.
