Volleyball heads to Denton for weekend tournament

ABILENE—The Wildcats are heading on the road for the first time this season when they make the short trip to Denton to participate in the North Texas Challenge at UNT. ACU will play three games on the weekend, two Friday and one Saturday, for their final tournament weekend of the year. Friday will feature matches against Montana State and Jackson State before closing the weekend with a match against UNT on Saturday.

A LOOK AT THE WILDCATS

ACU will look to bounce back after going 1-2 in the Wildcat Classic last weekend. The team dropped matches to UNM and Green Bay while closing the tournament with a sweep of Texas Southern.
Jada Birkel was named to the Wildcat Classic all-tournament team after hitting .390 with 28 kills through three matches.
Both Braden Bossier and Brea Box are coming off great performances against Texas Southern where they each hit over .500. Bossier hit .722 in the match with 13 kills while Box hit .571 with nine kills.
The Wildcats will face the Bobcats of Montana State for the first time in program history and will see Jackson State for just the second time. ACU won their only meeting 3-1 back in 2014, that match was also a neutral match in Denton.
ACU will meet North Texas for the sixth time in program history looking for their first win against the Mean Green.

SCOUTING MONTANA STATE

The Bobcats are 2-4 on the season. The team earned wins over Dixie State and Boise State, going 2-1 in their opening weekend of play, before going 0-3 in their home tournament last weekend.
Emma Pence and Kira Thomsen are leading the team offensively with hitting percentages of .309 and .295, respectively.
The team has a solid blocking presence with 2.42 blocks per set as a team and two players averaging better than one block per set.

SCOUTING JACKSON STATE

The Tigers will be playing for the first time since Sept. 1 after a match with Southeastern Louisiana was canceled earlier this week.
Jackson State is 0-3 on the season with losses to Auburn, La Tech, and Tennessee Tech.
Alexis Williams leads the Tigers with 24 kills on the season while Olivia Flanagan leads the team with a .208 hitting percentage.

SCOUTING NORTH TEXAS

The Mean Green are 4-2 on the season, finishing 2-1 in each of the tournaments they participated in.
Through six matches, UNT is outhitting their opponents .244 to .163 including a team performance hitting .360 against Grambling.
Rhett Robinson leads the team with 96 kills while Sarah Haussler is averaging 1.62 blocks per set on the season.
