ACU heads to Texas Tech Sunday night

LUBBOCK, Texas – After a 1-1 week to open the season, the ACU soccer team heads out for one of its toughest tests of the season Sunday night against the Big 12's Texas Tech. It is the lone Power 5 opponent on the Wildcats' schedule, and kickoff at the John Walker Soccer Complex is at 7 p.m., and the game will air on ESPN+.

ACU STORYLINES

  • WAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Junior Natalie Jones is the first ever ACU Wildcat to be earn an award given out by the Western Athletic Conference. After scoring twice in two games, Jones is the WAC Offensive Player of the Week. She scored a goal against both New Mexico State and UTEP as ACU went 1-1 to start the year.
  • MAKING HISTORY: Natalie Jones is the first Wildcat since Andrea Carpenter in 2011 to score goals in the first two games of a season. Jones also moved into eighth place in ACU history with 15 career goals.
  • FIRST TWO STARTS: Sophomore Lily Foster made her collegiate debut Thursday night at NM State, and was very active, tallying five saves, including a pair in overtime. Foster then pitched her first career shutout against UTEP, tallying six saves in the win.
  • PRESEASON ALL-CONFERENCE: One of the most decorated players in program history, Christina Arteaga, was named preseason all-WAC prior to the start of the season. Arteaga, the seventh-ever four-time first-team all-conference player in Southland Conference history, enters her final year with now 90 career points (35 goals, and 20 assists). The assists rank No. 1 in program history, while the goals and points rank second behind Andrea Carpenter, who played from 2010-13.
  • PRESEASON PICK: ACU was picked second in the new WAC Southwest Division, which features five Texas teams and Chicago State. SFA was picked to win the league, with Lamar tied for second with the Wildcats. UTRGV was picked fourth, Sam Houston was picked fifth, and Chicago State was picked sixth.

SCOUTING TEXAS TECH

  • The Lady Raiders are 2-0-1 on the young season, and are coming off a Thursday night win over Hartford, 1-0. The team tied UC San Diego, 1-1, and are in the midst of a four-game home stand.
  • Texas Tech has 33 players on its roster with 20 returners and 13 newcomers. The Red Raiders have 11 freshmen on the roster along with adding transfers in Eva Hurm (Notre Dame) and Sierra Castles (Long Beach State).
