COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Wildcats Track and Field team closed out the final day of the NCAA West Prelims with
Annina Brandenburg securing her second consecutive trip to the national meet. Brandenburg secured an 11th place finish in the discus throw with a mark of 55.22 meters (181-2).
The meet spanned four days with the men beginning competition on Wednesday.
Jamal January competed in two events on the day finishing 42nd in the long jump with a mark of seven meters (22-11.75) and 34th in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.07 just one-hundreth of a second off of his personal best.
Jack Marshall and
Avery Williams each competed in two events as well. Williams finished 33rd in the 400m with a time of 47.19 and 26th in the first round of the 200m, just missing the quarterfinals with a time of 20.95. Marshall finished 38th in the 100m with a time of 10.48 and earned a 23rd place finish in the 200m to qualify for the quarterfinals with a time of 20.90.
The women's competition began on Thursday with four Wildcats competing on the day.
Payton Kirk was the first to compete for the Wildcats finishing 42nd in the long jump with a mark of 5.80m (19-00.50). Brandenburg earned a 23rd place finish in the shot put with a throw of 15.97m (52-04.75).
Taylor Tolen secured a 29th place finish in the 100m dash with a time of 11.48 which moves her into No. 7 on ACU's all-time performer list.
Irene Rono competed in the 10,000m run but did not finish.
Thomas Wilson and
Sean Germany were in action for ACU in Friday's field events. Wilson finished 31st in the discus with a throw of 53.09m (174-02) and Germany finished 24th in the triple jump with a mark of 15.54m (51-0).
Due to a lightening delay on Friday, Marshall's quarterfinal race was pushed to Saturday where he finished 23rd with a run of 21.22.
Zoe Spinn began the Saturday competition for the women in the high jump where she finished 30th with a jump of 1.72m (5-7.75).
Ella Anttila used her final attempt in the triple jump to vault up the leader board, but finished 20th on the day with a jump of 12.94m (42-5.5).
Brandenburg will now move on to the national meet at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. June 9-12.
