ABILENE— The Wildcats were back at Poly Wells field for a Friday night doubleheader where they played host to Sam Houston. While the team put up 13 runs over the two games, they were unable to come away with a win.
Shaylee Alani led the way for the Wildcats going 6-of-8 at the plate and driving in five runs on the night.
Game 1
The Bearkats got off to the hot start in game one as they took a dominant 7-0 lead early. ACU answered in a big way in the bottom of the third inning as they put up five runs in the frame. The team capitalized on two Sam Houston errors while getting two hits of their own to get the run across. After SHSU put up another run in the top of the fourth inning, the Wildcats tied the game at 8 with a three-run fourth capped by a two-RBI double from Alani. Once again, the Bearkats had an answer and scored three runs in the top of the fifth. Alani drove in
Avery Miloch in the sixth and the Wildcats would plate another run in the seventh but came up short, falling 13-10 on the night.
Game 2
In similar fashion to game one, Sam Houston came out strong to start the second game of the night, taking a 4-0 lead.
Riley White singled home a run in the bottom of the second and
Paige Harris drove in another in the bottom of the fourth to cut the Bearkats' lead to 4-2. Sam Houston answered with two runs in the top of the fifth and the Wildcats were unable to generate enough offense to get back in the game. Sam Houston closed out the night with a 9-3 win.
Stat pack
- Alani drove in a career-high four RBI in game one of the doubleheader.
- Not only did Alani drive in five runs on the night, she scored two of the three runs in game two.
- The Wildcats totaled five stolen bases on the night with four of the five coming in game two of the doubleheader.
- The team drew a total of nine walks between both games.
- ACU put up double digits runs for the first time since their season opener when they scored 13 in a win over UTEP.
