Tennis teams home Friday for Corpus Christi doubleheader

ABILENE -- Abilene Christian men's and women's tennis play host to the Southland Conference's perennial favorites from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Friday for 11 a.m. / 2 p.m. doubleheader at the Eager Tennis Center.

The women also will welcome Lamar Sunday for a 10 a.m. outdoors match. The Big Country's weather forecast looks close to perfect this weekend with afternoon temps ranging from the high 60s to low 80s.

ACU's men's team comes into Friday's dual with overall and Southland marks of 6-10 and 1-1 following last weekend's 4-0 losses at UT Arlington and SMU. The Wildcats' lone win was at No. 1 doubles vs. the Mustangs as Savan Chhabra/Mihaly Deli defeated Liam Krall/Caleb Chakravarth, 6-4.

ACU is 2-6 all-time vs. the Islanders (12-4), and won a share of the conference regular-season title the two years the Wildcats were victorious against them in 2017 and 2019.

The Wildcat women (9-9) were idle last weekend, and come into this weekend series with a sixth-place Southland record of 4-2. The Islanders are one of two undefeated teams at 4-0, while the Lamar Cardinals are tied with the Wildcats at 4-2.

ACU is 3-4 all-time vs. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and 7-1 vs. the Cardinals since 2012.

The Wildcats were last in action the weekend of March 12-14, splitting a homestand vs. New Orleans (L, 4-3) and Nicholls (W, 6-1). Junior Allison Stewart played two spots up at No. 2 singles and went a combined 4-0, winning two additional doubles matches with Claire Fisher. She and sophomore Andrea Guerrero have respective singles win streaks of three and four matches.
