STEPHENVILLE, Texas -
Samantha Bradley recorded her third consecutive quality start Wednesday at Tarleton, unfortunately she was on the losing end this time as the Texans held on for a 1-0 win despite registering just two base hits.
The game time temperature was a cool 56 degrees and wind was blowing in from the southeast at 25 miles per hour.
The loss dropped ACU's season record to 6-15, while Tarleton improved to 9-15. The two teams split their season series at a game apiece with each side winning at home.
The Wildcats defeated Tarleton in comeback fashion earlier this month at Poly Wells Field and appeared ready to do it again as the first two batters reached in the sixth inning with the home team leading by a run.
Shaylee Alani led off with a single up the middle against Tristan Bridges and an error by the Texans' second baseman allowed
Katelyn Belch to reach. Belch would then steal her fifth base of the year to give ACU runners in scoring position with no outs.
Bridges, however, battled back out of the jam, getting a pop up, fielder's choice and a fly ball to right to squash the Wildcats' threat.
Overall, ACU left nine runners on base to five for the Texans, who were held in check most of the night by Bradley.
The Azle, Texas, native faced a combined eight batters between the first and second innings and then recorded a three-up, three-down third. Tarleton finally reached her for a run in the fourth on a two-out sacrifice fly to left field by Morgan Medford with runners in scoring position, scoring pinch runner Destiny Salinas.
From there, Bradley survived two walks in the fifth and tossed a 1-2-3 sixth to finish at 102 pitches.
ACU's three base hits tonight were ripped by
Donelle Johnson, Alani and Belch, who doubled in the fourth.
The Wildcats return to action Friday and Saturday for a three-game home series vs. Central Arkansas. The two teams will play a 5 p.m. doubleheader Friday and a single game Saturday at noon.Â
