Wildcats head to Houston for five-game weekend

ABILENE, Texas – The Wildcats began their week on the road at Texas State and UNT and they will finish their week in Houston as they head south for five games over the weekend. ACU will kick off the weekend with a single game on Friday night against Houston, head to Texas Southern for a doubleheader, and then return to UH for a Sunday afternoon doubleheader with the Cougars.

Last Time Out

WILDCATS STORYLINES

  • The Wildcats' have struggled to get going offensively against some tough pitchers early in the season. The team was no-hit at Texas State, and had just two hits in their game at UNT.
  • Avery Miloch has been a bright spot for the Wildcats as she is hitting .412 through two weeks of action and has hit two homeruns on the year. Her presence behind the plate has been stellar for ACU through seven games.
  • Another talented young player for the Wildcats is pitcher Riley White, who pitched a complete game shutout in a win over UTEP and has shown promise in two other starts on the young season.
  • Despite two losses as Texas State, the Wildcats showed out on defense making stellar play after stellar play in the field, highlighted by some superb catches in the outfield by Lacy Johnson.

SCOUTING THE COUGARS (4-4)

  • The Cougars have a busy week as well and they are coming off a doubleheader split at Sam Houston. The Bearkats took game one from Houston 2-1, before UH bounced back to earn the monster 16-3 win in game two. 
  • Houston's freshman pitcher, Hailey Hudson, threw a no-hitter in her collegiate debut against Texas Southern on Feb.13. It was the second time in as many years that a freshman pitcher debuted with a no-hitter for Houston.
  • Sarah Queen has already launched four homeruns for UH this year, the redshirt senior is hitting .385 with an .885 slugging percentage.
  • Houston will have a tough test on Saturday to split up the series with the Wildcats as they will face RV/No. 25 Mississippi in Austin on Saturday.

SCOUTING THE TIGERS (0-3)

  • The Tigers have just three games under their belts for 2021 with seven other games being either canceled or postponed. The dropped a cross-town game to Houston and dropped both games of a doubleheader with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Wednesday. 
  • TSU's offense has struggled out of the gate hitting just .086 as a team with five total hits through three games and have yet to record an extra-base hit.
  • The pitching staff has a 6.72 ERA with 14 strikeouts on the season. 
  • This doubleheader will serve as the home opener for the Tigers.
