
Rono wins WAC Championship in Riverside

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The ACU cross country teams took part in the Western Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday, with Irene Rono coming away as the individual champion on the women's side. The ACU women finished the day in third place as a team, while the Wildcat men came in seventh.
Rono turned in a time of 19:44.2 to win the meet, marking her third first place finish in her last four competitions this fall. Teammates Prudence Kiyeng (8th, 20:43.6) and Briahna Gerlach (9th, 20:45.0) gave the Wildcats a third of the top nine individual finishers. Tessa Holderman (20th, 21:16.2) and Grace White (24th, 21:33.6) turned in strong performances for the Purple and White, while Sarah Wagler (57th, 23:07.9) and Ariana Trevino (66th, 23:46.1) rounded out ACU's top seven.
On the men's side, Levi Chambers was the top ACU finisher on the men's side, finishing in 24th individually with a time of 24:47.6. Denis Lagat (29th, 24:55.9) and Kevin Kipkosgei (34th, 25:15.0) were the next two across the finish line for the Wildcats, while Maxwel Kiplagat (48th, 25:34.4) and Gabe Embree (56th, 25:44.1) followed for ACU.
The Wildcats return to action on November 12, when they head to the NCAA South Central Regionals in Waco. The National Championships are scheduled for the following weekend in Tallahassee, Florida.
