Rono, Kiyeng qualify for NCAA National Championships with strong showing at South Central Regionals

WACO, Texas – The ACU cross country teams took part in the NCAA South Central Regionals on Friday, with Irene Rono and Prudence Kiyeng qualifying for next week's NCAA National Championships. ACU's women finished in fifth place as a team, while the Wildcat men finished the season in 19th place.
Rono, the Western Athletic Conference champion, turned in a time of 20:51.2 to finish in fourth place individually, while Kiyeng came in 10th with a time of 21:09.0. Tessa Holderman (22:02.9, 38th) was next across the finish line for the Wildcats, while Grace White (22:06.6, 41st) and Briahna Gerlach (22:07.3, 42nd) rounded out ACU's top five.
On the men's side, Levi Chambers (33:04.3, 73rd) led the way for the Purple and White, followed by Denis Lagat (33:28.6, 78th) and Maxwel Kiplagat (33:34.5, 83rd). Kevin Kipkosgei (33:49.6, 87th) and Gabe Embree (33:56.2) were ACU's fourth and fifth finishers respectively.
The NCAA National Championships are set for next Saturday and will be hosted by Florida State University. The women's race is slated for 9:20 a.m. CT from Apalachee Regional Park.
