ABILENE -- First year Director of Tennis Operations Juan Nunez Monday released the women's 2021 spring schedule, which shows the Wildcats playing the best programs in Texas before embarking on an 11-game Southland Conference slate.
The team also will play host to its annual Alumni Day on Saturday, April 17, leading into the Southland Conference Championships hosted by Lamar University the weekend of April 24-25.
The Wildcats' January competitions feature road games at SMU (Jan. 15), TCU (Jan. 16), Baylor (Jan. 29) and Texas A&M (Jan. 30) with a home date vs. UTSA set for Saturday, January, 23.
ACU plays nine matches in February, starting with back-to-back home duals vs. its old NCAA DII rivals from Tarleton State (Feb. 5) and UT Permian Basin (Feb. 6). The Wildcats also will play host to McMurry on Feb. 20 and Wichita State on Feb. 24. In between they'll visit Lubbock on Valentine's Day for a twin bill vs. Texas Tech and New Mexico.
Conference play begins on the road the weekend of Feb. 26 with the Wildcats visiting McNeese and Southeastern Louisiana. From there, they'll return to Abilene for the start of a month-long homestand (March 5-28) that features six league opponents plus a non-conference showdown vs. South Dakota (March 9).
ACU begins April with three Southland road matches at Incarnate Word, Central Arkansas and Northwestern State before coming home to battle University of the Southwest on April 16.
All start times are still to be determined.
The Wildcats return five of six starters (Claire Fisher, Andrea Guerrero, Nini Memishishi, Ileana Mocciola and Allison Stewart) from the 2020 spring season, which was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. ACU was 7-8 overall and 3-1 against conference opposition when the decision was made to cancel spring sports competitions.
The team also returns South African natives Eva Du Toit and Anna Hosking, and added freshmen Maryjoe Crisologo and Danielle Viljoen, the younger sister of junior Sylvia Viljoen.
