WTEN tests No. 5 Wolfpack and Texas Tech

ABILENE - Abilene Christian women's tennis didn't leave the Texas Panhandle with any team points; however, by pushing the ITA's No. 1 doubles team to a tiebreaker and claiming a set against the Lady Raiders' top-line player, the Wildcats appear to be battle tested for the upcoming Southland Conference season, which starts at home on Friday, Feb. 28 vs. Southeastern La.

Friday at the Lubbock Country Club, senior Sarah Adams was the lone Wildcat to take a set from Texas Tech as she won the second set vs. Olivia Peet, 6-2, but their match never reached its conclusion as the Lady Raiders won three-consecutive straight-set matches at the No. 2, 3 and 4 positions after winning the doubles point.

Saturday against the fifth-ranked Wolfpack of North Carolina State, Adams and junior Nini Memishishi came within a hair of toppling the nation's top-ranked doubles team of Anna Rogers and Alana Smith before bowing in the tiebreaker, 7-6 (3).

ACU's No. 2 doubles team of Ileana Mocciola and Allison Stewart also fared well in their contest vs. Dylan Cannon and Jaeda Daniel behind an unfinished tie score of 6-6. When paired with Adriana Reami, who did not play Saturday, Daniel and she comprise the ITA's 14th-ranked doubles pairing.

The Wildcats have one more road weekend coming up in Arlington before returning home on Feb. 28. This coming Saturday ACU will face both Tyler Junior College and UT Tyler at the Arlington Tennis Center. Match times are 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
