Baseball takes best start since 2016 with them to TCU

FORT WORTH – The ACU baseball team is off to its best start since 2016, and now gets a huge early test when it heads to TCU on Tuesday. The Wildcats (4-0) take on the Horned Frogs (3-0) at Lupton Stadium, and will meet for the sixth consecutive season. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday evening. TCU will come to Abilene on March 31.

The History
  • This will be the ninth meeting between the schools, with TCU leading the series, 7-1.
  • The Horned Frogs have won three straight in the series, including sweeping the Wildcats a year ago.
  • TCU leads the series 3-1 in Fort Worth, but ACU's lone win in the series came in April 2018 in 11 innings, 4-2.

Opening Weekend Recap vs. Utah Valley
  • ACU's four-game sweep began with a walk-off and ended with a walk-off. Game 1 saw ACU squander a 2-0 lead in the seventh, only to win it with a bases-loaded sacrifice fly from Hunter Gieser in the ninth.
  • Games 2 & 3 took place Saturday in the form of a doubleheader, and it featured 20 runs for the day for the Wildcats. ACU won 10-1 to open Saturday, with Cameron Cromer driving in three runs to lead the team. Gieser and Ryne Randle each drove in two runs, and Cromer and Alexei Cazarin led the team with three hits apiece.
  • ACU dominated Game 3, 10-3, and continued to get offense with Joseph Craig driving in four runs. Gieser and Cazarin drove in a pair of runs each, while Colton Eager led the way with three hits.
  • Game 4 featured the first extra-inning game of the year. ACU trailed 2-0 in the fifth, only to tie the game in the bottom half. Miller Ladusau and Tommy Cruz each drove in runners to even the game at 2-2, only to see Utah Valley take the lead in the sixth. ACU tied it in the ninth on a Craig single, and Hayden Clearman scored in the bottom of the 11th on a wild pitch to win the game, 4-3.

Later This Week
  • The four-game road trip continues this weekend in beautiful Santa Barbara, Calif. as ACU battles UCSB. The series takes place Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, Feb. 21-23.
