WTEN wins fifth-straight match over Lamar, 6-1

ABILENE – Abilene Christian women's tennis pushed its overall win streak to three and extended its home and Southland Conference winning streaks to eight and seven, respectively, following Friday's 6-1 victory over Lamar at the Eager Tennis Center.

ACU is now 5-1 all-time vs. the Cardinals, 11-8 this spring, and still tied for first place in the league with Northwestern State at 7-0.

The Wildcats started today's match by winning their sixth doubles point in seven tries. The No. 1 ACU duo of sophomore Nini Memishishi and junior Sarah Adams made quick work of Lamar's Jasmin Buchta and Amelie Vossgaetter, and the No. 2 tandem of sophomore Ileana Mocciola and senior Autumn Bellow soon followed with a 6-2 decision over Bianca Vitale and Natalia Molina.

It didn't take ACU long to reach a 3-0 advantage as both its No. 1 and 2 line players Memishishi and Adams each won in straight sets.  Memishishi won her 10th singles match of the spring after dispatching Buchta, 6-0, 6-2, and the Adams defeated Vitale, 6-3, 6-4, for her fourth win in seven league matches.

The clinching point, however, took some time getting to but was eventually earned by senior Jordan Henry at the No. 4 position, where she battled back to defeat Vossgaetter, 6-1, 5-7, 6-1, for her team-leading 12th win of the spring. Mocciola then scored the Wildcats' fifth point, beating Laura Sola Grau, 7-5, 7-5, and freshman Allison Stewart capped ACU's scoring with a marathon win over Molina, 5-7, 6-2, 7-6 (9-7).

Stewart is 11-9 overall but a perfect 7-0 vs. Southland opposition.

The Wildcats return to action and conclude their homestand with a Sunday 1 p.m. match vs. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The Islanders have won their last three contests vs. ACU by the same 4-3 score.
