4/25/2019 12:30:00 PM | Softball
ABILENE – The ACU softball team (10-28, 3-18 SLC) will take to the turf at Poly Wells Field for the final time in the 2019 season as it hosts the Islanders of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The Wildcats look to build momentum from its game three, walk-off, 6-5 win over Stephen F. Austin last Saturday. ACU and AMCC will meet in the Second Annual Go Pink Game Presented by Hendrick Women's Services Friday night before wrapping up the series Saturday.
WEEKEND COVERAGE… Friday night's doubleheader at Poly Wells Field will begin at 5 p.m. (7 p.m. for Game 2), and will have a live stat option as well as a webcast. Saturday's game will start at 12 p.m. and will have a live stat option only.
GO PINK… ACU will host its Second Annual Go Pink Game Presented by Hendrick Women's Services Friday evening. Fans are encouraged to wear their pink to support the cause. The team and coaches will wear pink ribbons to support breast cancer awareness.
THE SERIES… The Wildcats hold a significant lead in the all-time series, 12-4, through 16 games. ACU took two-of-three from the Islander in Corpus Christi last season, and the lone AMCC win snapped a six-game winning streak in the series for the Wildcats. ACU owns a 7-2 record in Abilene.
WALK-OFF WINNER… After trailing 5-2 with just four outs left to work with, the Wildcats rallied in spectacular fashion in the final game of the series to tie it at the end of the sixth inning. Samantha Bradley singled to score a run, and freshman Kaitlyn Huseman doubled to tie the contest, all with two outs. The two pitchers then took over, and neither team scored in the seventh or eighth innings. Bradley held SFA hitless in extras, and ACU would put pressure on in the home ninth. Blair Clayton proved to be the hero, singling into right-center field to score Linsey Tomlinson to win the game in style. Clayton's three hits led the way, while Huseman and Kayla Keeling each tallied two hits.
