ABILENE – Abilene Christian women's tennis avenged last year's one-point loss at Sam Houston (7-4, 2-1 SLC) with a 4-3 victory Friday on the outdoor courts of the Eager Tennis Center.
The Wildcats won their sixth doubles point in improving to 6-7 overall and 2-0 within the conference followed by individual singles triumphs from senior
Autumn Crossnoe Bellow at No. 3, freshman
Allison Stewart at No. 5 and sophomore Illeana Mocciola at No. 6.
Mocciola has earned the Wildcats' last two match-clinching points over Southland Conference competition, beginning with last weekend's 4-3 win at Southeastern La. She is now 7-6 in singles play.
ACU's doubles point was won by its No. 2 and 3 line teams as the No. 1 match was left unfinished. Mocciola's and Bellow's win at the second line was their ninth of the spring, while Henry and Stewart evened their record together at 3-3.
The Wildcats' homestand continues Sunday with a 1 p.m. dual vs. Stephen F. Austin; however, that match might be moved into the Teague Events Center as the forecast calls for an afternoon high of 58 with a 30 percent chance of rain.
