This Week in Wildcat Baseball: ACU at UTA; hosts Grambling

ABILENE – Abilene Christian baseball completes its eight-game road trip and begins an eight-game homestand all in the matter of a few days this week as the Wildcats follow a Wednesday night visit to UT Arlington (6:30 p.m.) with a weekend series vs. the Grambling State Tigers.

The Wildcats (10-13, 3-6 Southland) have lost their last five games and are 1-6 on their current road trip, which includes defeats at Baylor, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Southeastern La. The Mavs' game promises not to be any easier as UTA already is off to a 16-9 start following Tuesday night's 9-0 win at Dallas Baptist, during which Drew Gooch and Cesar Gomez combined on a five-hit shutout.

UTA also won the first meeting with the Wildcats in Abilene earlier this season, 2-0. The Mavs used five pitchers in that victory and received RBI hits in the eighth and ninth innings from Anthony Dominguez and Justin Marino.

ACU is 2-2 at the Mavs' Clay Gould Ballpark, winning there in 2014 and 2017.

The Wildcats received some solid individual performances last weekend despite losing all three games at Southeastern Louisiana.

Senior outfielder Dalon Farkas batted .462 vs. the Lions, scored four runs, and broke the program's DI-era record for most doubles with 50. Luis Trevino also remained a threat at the plate, collecting five RBI and five base hits, two of which left the ball park. The senior catcher now has six round-trippers on the spring, good for second in the Southland Conference, while Farkas ranks 22nd nationally and first in the league with 10 doubles.

Grambling, meanwhile, is 11-13 after topping Alcorn State Tuesday to snap a four-game losing streak. The Tigers are hitting .266 as  a team and have five everyday players batting in excess of .300 led by Isaiah Torres (.393) and Michael Sookdeo (.364).

Bryan Delgado is the ace of Grambling's pitching staff as he comes into the weekend with four wins through six starts, an era of 3.16 and 30 strikeouts through 37.0 innings pitched.
